January
I believe that life is always bringing us new opportunities to start fresh, whether that's a crisp morning, a new month, or in this case a brand new year! It allows us to give it new meaning and feel brave enough to try. Effort and motivation can be a real challenge to keep going?
How can we actually do that effectively you ask?
I like to start with the easy part. Our environment heavily impacts the way we behave, so why not create a space that allows you to feel inspired?
Write out how you want to feel in this new year (day, week, month). Create a mood board and a vision, this is now made easy with Pinterest, but feel free to go old school. Nothing cozier than making magazine cut-outs while listening to some tunes or a good podcast. Yes to that mood *sips cocoa*
+ Pack away anything that no longer speaks to your new self.
+ New layout, rearrange your furniture especially if it's not practical.
+ Let the light in. If your spaces have windows blocking in natural sunlight you're missing out on new energy. If you have small windows or there's not enough natural light coming through, perhaps bring in a light fixture that will bring a nice ambiance and that bit of magic to your space. I love my white salt lamp that gives a warm tone to our room in the evenings.
+ Wash away the old using preferably clean (non toxic ingredients) products, wipe down areas you'd usually avoid on a day to day basis. This is so that on an energetic level it will feel like a new space.
- Be sure to open windows whilst you're cleaning to freshen up your space.
- Essential oils are a great way to welcome in the new, a few drops go a long way and have be shown to have positive impacts on mood and behaviour.
+ Bring in life! A new plant or flowers can allow our body to feel rejuvenated. There's so many great indoor plants that help purify your air.
+ With a fresh new layout and clean, your items will hopefully be a lot more manageable and can now neatly be stored in their spaces. Feel free to binge on a few home organising shows on netflix to get your inspired.
+ Bring in the 'new'. I don't necessarily encourage over consumption you may want to buy a (second-hand) print, or something that will give your new space an element of the ideal version of you. whether that's a beautiful landscape or something you've always had tucked away but never got the appreciation it deserved.
Now that your space has brought you closer to your new life, You can write out your new identity. Let go of limiting beliefs that no longer serve you. Everyone has some area in their life that they've told themselves will always be that way because that's just 'who they are'. Truth is, you get to decide that. It's a thought that can radically change your life, just by switching your own narrative on who you are, and where you're going.
